A record number of schoolchildren show up in the name of Anti-Racism

09 June 2022

As part of the Grundskolefotboll anti-racism collaboration, children living in the Malmö area have been attending workshops and training sessions on discrimination and human rights. To celebrate, over 2000 children will gather for a football party at Limhamnsfältet. Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh, President of Malmö City Council, will open the day.

Children from 30 Malmö schools will be on hand at Limhamnsfältet on June 9th after taking part in ‘Grundskolefotboll mot rasismer’, a project launched in 2010 in cooperation with the City of Malmö with the aim of increasing children’s understanding of their rights. This school year saw a record 2,400 pupils taking part. In addition to a football tournament with mixed teams, Malmö FF will organise activities in which the children will have an opportunity to participate during the event.

“Football is a universal language and we consistently believe in sport as an arena for integration and tolerance. Primary school football against racism combines important and big issues with movement and fun to promote openness and community among the city’s young people.”

Karin Heri, Head of Community Affairs and Sustainability at Malmö FF
