Belgian Pro League Shows Racism the Red Card

17 December 2020

In the 18th round of the Pro League, all the teams in the first Belgian professional football league showed racism the red card. They did so after Royal Antwerp FC’s captain Faris Haroun was the subject of online racist abuse after Antwerp’s game against Club Brugge. After the incident, Royal Antwerp, Club Brugge, and the Pro League filled a report and pressed charges. In the midweek round this week, all the clubs showed solidarity with Haroun and made it clear that racism has no place on and off the pitch. Before kick-off, the captains of both teams and the referee took a picture with the “Show Racism the Red Card” red card.

After Royal Antwerp’s game with Club Brugge on Sunday 13 December, faced racist abuse on twitter by a fan. Haroun shared the abuse on twitter with the statement that we should always say no to racism. After the incident, clubs in the whole of Belgium supported Haroun in the statement that there is no place to racism.
