Axel Tuanzebe and Anthony Martial were subjected to racial abuse on social media after the match against Sheffield United. Instagram users posted racist comments and Tuanzaebe was targeted on Twitter too.

On Thursday morning, the club communicated its zero-tolerance policy towards any form of racism or discrimination and issued the following statements regarding the racist incidents:

“Everyone at Manchester United is disgusted by the racial abuse received by players via social media after last night’s game.”

“We utterly condemn it and it is encouraging to see other fans condemn this on social media also.

“Manchester United has zero tolerance of any form of racism or discrimination and a long-standing commitment to campaigning against it through our All Red All Equal initiative.

Manchester United players such as the captain Harry Maguire, Fred Rodrigues , Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford posted messages of support on social media too.
