Pernille Harder - Role model on and off the pitch

26 May 2021

Today we would like to introduce you to Pernille Harder, who is considered to be one of the best players in the world and was also the most expensive transfer in the women’s game, when she transferred from Vfl Wolfsburg to Chelsea for 300,000 pounds.

Not only on the pitch but also off the pitch Pernille Harder is a superstar. Together with her Swedish girlfriend Magda Eriksson, who is also a professional football player for the Chelsea women’s team, they inspire millions of people by talking about the LGBTQ+ community as LGBTQ+ Ambassadors.

After Sweden won against Canada in the last 16 of the 2019 Women’s World Cup, Magda Eriksson went to her partner in the stands of the stadium in Paris and shared a kiss. Overnight the picture went viral and received many different positive reactions. Pernille Harder came with an inspirational statement, after the moment:

“If I were a man, I’d have kissed my girlfriend. I am a woman and I also kiss my girlfriend.”

As well as being an LGBTQ+ ambassador she is also since 2019 a member of a foundation called ‘Common goal’ that pledge 1% of their earnings to a central fund. This money would then go to high impact organizations that harness the power of football in order to tackle the greatest social challenges of our time.

Within this foundation she supports a project called ‘Play Proud’ which is an initiative working to empower LGBTQ+ youth through football, by creating inclusion.

Pernille Harder and Magda Eriksson both established themselves as role models, and as a symbol of inclusivity and open-mindedness in the football industry.
