Take action and inspire change – Nelson Mandela International Day
18 July 2019
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for loves comes naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
Today the world celebrates Mandela Day, a commemoration of Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy. This day is in recognition of the former South African President’s contribution to the culture of peace and freedom and is a global call to action and inspire change. On this day, we celebrate that each and every individual has the power to transform the world; has the ability to make an impact.
Mandela devoted his life to the service of humanity – as a human rights lawyer, as a prisoner of conscience, as international peacemaker and as the first black and democratically elected president of a free South Africa.
The personal sacrifices Mandela made for the greater good of his nation demonstrated his resolute character. The lack of bitterness he had for his oppressors showed his country how to forgive and move forward. His words on education, leadership and courage have inspired millions of people around the world, in the past and they still do today.
