This interview features Ilse Kleinjan who is part of the CSR Department at NAC Breda. The interview is part of our Women in Football campaign, which focuses on creating visibility for women working in the football industry. Dutch version here (original).
- What do you like most about working in football?
It is very dynamic, never the same, and very nice that you can give something back to the supporters and the municipality.
2. Was it difficult to find your way around the world of football
No, I’ve been playing football myself for a while and I’m used to the men’s world.
3. Did you have certain female role models that you looked up to in the past?
I always thought Shakira was really cool, but that’s not a role model in football. In football, I did have male role models.
4. What advice would you give to girls who would like to work in football later on?
Be yourself and joke now and then.
5. What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in your career?
That you sometimes have to do something that you do not fully support, but that is good for policy.
6. What are the biggest changes you have seen when it comes to women in the football world?
That it has become more normal that there are also women in football and that your opinion also counts, that you are not looked at.

- Wat vind je het leukst aan werken in het voetbal?
Het is erg dynamisch, nooit hetzelfde en erg fijn dat je iets terug kunt doen voor de supporters en de Gemeente.
2. Was het moeilijk om je weg te vinden in de voetbalwereld?
Nee hoor, ik voetbal zelf al een tijdje en de mannenwereld ben ik wel gewend.
3. Had je vroeger bepaalde vrouwelijke rolmodellen waar je naar op keek?
Ik vond Shakira altijd heel stoer, maar dat is geen rolmodel in het voetbal. In het voetbal had ik wel mannelijke rolmodellen.
4. Wat voor advies zou je geven aan meisjes die graag later ook in het voetbal zouden willen werken?
Ben jezelf en maak af en toe een grapje.
5. Wat was de grootste uitdaging waar je in je carrière mee te maken hebt gehad?
Dat je soms iets moet doen waar je niet helemaal 100% achter staat maar wat wel goed is voor het beleid.
6. Wat zijn de grootste veranderingen die je hebt gezien als het gaat om vrouwen in de voetbalwereld?
Dat het normaler is geworden dat er ook vrouwen zijn in het voetbal end at ook jouw mening telt, dat je niet gek aangekeken wordt.
